Development of a concept for a new school
Today a big part of Nomankhayas private house is used for school rooms. This is suboptimal. During the past few years, Nomankhaya did a big effort to provide sufficient space for the school. But even reconstructing the house a number of times, annex rooms to the existing building etc. was not enough. There is still additional necessity for room. And there is no outside area that could be used as a playground.
There are still a big number of children without the possibility to go to school. In the area there are some unused zones.
In 2013 we did approach the owner company of this property and started negotiations to acquire that land. The plot is only approximately 200 meters away from today’s premises and it has a perfect size of approx. 4500 m2. This would be good enough to build a school with sufficient room including a playground and an additional community centre.
Project steps new School
With the closing of the school and the Pandemic restrictions unfortunately the planed start oft he new school project was postponed.
In 2022 we could restart and review the project and are now busy working on it.
We are also making a small video to illustrate the plan and the proposal fort he new site. (explaining the problems the children face and having a safe place to play and to be educated.
Also we are negotiating with the community about how we can have community engagement workshops so that the community feels they are part oft he progress.
So if everything runs well we plan to start building in 2023.
Planning for the school on the new, large site has started. We should be able to present the first detailed plans in mid 2019
The current focus is on the design of the new premises and the outdoor courts. The design is developed by local architects. The needs of the neighborhood are also taken into account.
The property is very large. This allows us to make room for a large number of children. However, it also leads to many buildings with correspondingly high investment costs. The financing and development is therefore planned in stages. This should make it easier to find investors and sponsors for each stage.
Another great step is achieved! The contract is signed and the purchase for the new piece of land is complete.
We will work out now the entire planning of the property and elaborate a master plan. And then we need sponsors for the next construction stages of the houses!
We received the confirmation to buy the land for the new school. The contractual agreement has to be settled.
As soon as the purchase of the land has been completed we will work out with our architects the entire spatial planning of the property. After that the master plan will be prepared to determine the necessary financial support.
The purchase of the property will be financed mostly by our own resources (thanks also to our supporters). For the various construction stages of the houses we are looking for Sponsors!
One big goal is achieved – we got the official registration for the school in october 2012!
